Power supply
POWER SUPPLY Batteries Whenever convenient, use the power supply if you want to conserve battery life. Make sure you remove the power cord from the set and the wall outlet before inserting batteries. � Open the battery compartment and insert as shown six batteries, type R20, UM1 or D-cells. � Replace the compartment door, making sure the batteries are firmly and correctly in place. � Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they will not be used again for a long period. � The incorrect use of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and will corrode the compartment or cause the batteries to burst. Therefore: � Do not mix battery types, e.g. alkaline with zinc carbonate. � When inserting new batteries, replace all six batteries the same time. Note; The battery supply is switched off when the set is connected to the AC power. AC power

Installation
REMOVABLE SPEAKERS Taking off the speakers � Keep the levers (found on the back corners of the speakers) pressed and slide the speaker upwards. The ideal position is obtained when the 2 front speakers and the listening position build an equilateral triangle and the speakers are at ear-height. Note: Speakers with an impedance of 4 ohms or higher other than as supplied may be used instead. Do not, however, use speakers with a lower impedance as this will result in damage to your set. Attaching the speakers � Slide the speakers from above in the sleeves on the sides of the set cabinet. The speakers will click into position. Connecting the speakers � Connect the right speaker to the terminal R, with the red marked wire to + and the the black wire to �. � Clip the exposed portion of wire into the corresponding color terminal. � Repeat the wiring procedure for the left speaker to terminal L, making sure that you connect the red wire to + and the black to �.

Cassette recorder
CASSETTE RECORDING General information on cassette recording � Recording is permissible insofar as copyright or other rights of third parties are not infringed. � Recording is only possible on deck 1. During recording it is advisable not to wind or rewind a tape in deck 2. � This deck is not suited for recording on CHROME (IEC II) or METAL (IEC IV) type cassettes. For recording you should use NORMAL type cassettes (IEC I) on which the tabs have not been broken. � The recording level is set automatically. Altering the VOLUME , DBB or TONE will not affect the recording in progress. � No recording will take place during the first 7 seconds, when the leader tape passes the recorder heads. � To prevent the accidental erasure of a recording, keep the cassette side to be safeguarded in front of you and break out the left tab. Now recording on this side is no longer possible. � To render this safeguard ineffective, cover the tabs with a piece of adhesive tape. Starting and stopping the recording � Set the source selector to TAPE. � Press STOP·OPEN 9 / to open the cassette holder. � Insert the cassette with the full reel on the left-hand side. � Start recording by pressing RECORD 0. There is no need to press the PLAY 2 key. This will happen automatically. � To record on the other side of the cassette, turn it over by hand, rewind it to the beginning and press RECORD 0. Recording from the radio � Press STOP·OPEN 9 / to open the cassettte holder. � Insert a recordable cassette with the full reel on the � � � � � � left-hand side. Set the source selector to TUNER. Tune to the desired station (see radio reception). Press RECORD 0 to start recording. For brief interruptions, press PAUSE ;. To resume recording, press PAUSE ; again. To stop, press STOP·OPEN 9 /. DUBBING: COPYING FROM DECK 2 TO 1 For best results, use the AC power supply or fresh batteries. � Set the source selector to TAPE and do not move this switch during recording. � Press both STOP·OPEN 9 / keys and insert a recorded tape into deck 2 and a suitable tape for recording in deck 1. � Press PAUSE ; on deck 1 and then RECORD 0. � To start dubbing, press PLAY 2 on deck 2. � PAUSE ; is then released. � By pressing PAUSE ; on deck 1 you can omit undesired passages while playback on deck 2 continues. � Pressing PAUSE ; on deck 2 will create pauses. � To stop, press both STOP·OPEN keys 9 /. CD synchro - recording from the CD-player � Set the source selector to CD. � Insert a CD and if desired, program track numbers. � Insert a recordable cassette with the full reel on the left-hand side. � Press RECORD 0 to start recording. � Playing of the CD program starts automatically from the beginning of the program. � It is not necessary to start the CD player seperately. � For brief interruptions, press PAUSE ;. � To resume recording, press PAUSE ; again. � To stop recording press STOP·OPEN 9 /. To select and record a particular passage within a track � Press SEARCH � or § to select a passage. � Put the CD player in PAUSE ; position at the selected passage. � Press RECORD 0 to start recording from this exact point.

Maintenance
PRECAUTIONS � Place the set on a hard and flat surface so that it does not tilt. � Before replacing or removing the batteries, always switch off the set first and wait until the CD display goes out. � Do not cover the set, because the amplifier produces heat which must dissipate freely, so make sure that there is sufficient ventilation around the set. A minimum gap of 15 cm is necessary. GENERAL MAINTENANCE � The mechanical parts of the CD player and the cassette deck contain self-lubricating bearings and must not be oiled or lubricated. � A chamois leather slightly moistened with water is sufficient for cleaning the housing. � Do not use cleaning agents containing alcohol, spirits, ammonia or abrasives as these may harm the housing. � Do not leave the set, CDs, batteries or cassettes to humidity, rain, sand, direct sunlight or other places where high temperatures can occur, such as in the vicinity of heating apparatus or in motor cars parked in the sun. CD PLAYER MAINTENANCE � The lens may cloud over if the CD player is moved from cold to warm surroundings. The CD player will not start. Give the player some time to acclimatise. � Keep the CD compartment free of dust using a clean cloth. RECORDER MAINTENANCE To ensure a good recording and playback quality, clean the indicated parts A,B and C after every 50 hours of operation or, on average, once a month. Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid. � Press press PAUSE clean the rubber capstans B andC. � Then PLAY 2 and ; and clean the pressure rollers the heads A. � After cleaning, press STOP·OPEN 9 /. Cleaning of the heads A can also be done by playing a cleaning cassette through once. CD HANDLING

Recycling
� Use Digital Audio CDs only. � To take the CD out of its box easily, press the center spindle while lifting the CD. � Never write on a CD or attach any sticker to the CD. � Always hold the CD at the edge and always store it in its box after use, label facing up. � The lens of the CD player should never be touched. � Do not use cleaning agents to clean a CD as this may damage the CD. To remove dust and dirt breathe on the CD and wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth in a straight line from the center towards the edge. RECYCLING Please observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of packing materials, exhausted batteries and old equipment. � Your set consists of materials which can be recycled if disassembled by a specialized company. � All redundant packaging material has been omitted. We have done our utmost to make the packaging easily separable into three mono-materials: � cardboard (box) � expandable polystyrene (buffer) � polyethylene (bags, protective foam sheet) � Do not dispose of exhausted batteries with your household waste.

� Adjust the sound using the VOLUME, TONE and DBB controls. � To switch off the set, set the source selector to TAPE/OFF position, with the cassette keys released. TUNER � Set the source selector to TUNER. � Adjust the sound using the VOLUME, TONE and DBB controls. � Select the wave band using the FM�AM selector . � Tune to a radio station using the TUNING knob. � For FM, pull out the telescopic antenna. To improve FM-reception, incline and turn the antenna. Reduce its length if the FM-signal is too strong (very close to a transmitter). � For AM, the set is provided with a built-in antenna, so the telescopic antenna is not needed. Direct the antenna by turning the whole set.

Set the source selector to CD. Press OPEN to open the CD door. Insert the AUDIO CD, printed side facing up. To close the CD door, push the door down. Playback will start by pressing PLAY·PAUSE 2;. Adjust the sound using the VOLUME, TONE and DBB controls.

To interrupt playback, press PLAY·PAUSE 2;. Press PLAY·PAUSE 2; again to continue playback. Press STOP 9 to stop CD playback. Set the source selector to TAPE/OFF position to switch off the set. Note: CD playback will also stop when: � the CD has reached the end; � the CD door is opened; � the source selector is in the TAPE/OFF position. SELECTING A DIFFERENT TRACK DURING PLAYBACK � You can jump to the next track by pressing § once. If you want to skip more than one track, press § more than once until the display shows the desired track number. � If you want to repeat the running track from the beginning, press � once. If you want to repeat one of the previous tracks, press � more than once until the display shows the required track number. STARTING WITH A PARTICULAR TRACK � In the STOP position you can also select the desired track using the SEARCH § or � button. � Press PLAY·PAUSE 2; to start playback. SEARCHING A PASSAGE WITHIN A TRACK You can search for a passage within a track. The CD is played at low volume and at high speed. � Keep the SEARCH � or § button pressed during playback, and release the button as soon as you recognize the required passage: normal CD playback will resume from this point.

PLAYING TRACKS IN RANDOM ORDER � SHUFFLE MODE The SHUFFLE mode allows you to play all tracks on the CD in a random order. Note: The SHUFFLE MODE cannot be combined with the PROGRAM feature. � Press MODE once before or during CD playback. � The display will show SHUFFLE. � Tracks will now be played in random order. � During playback you can use � or § to select another random track. � To leave the SHUFFLE mode, press the MODE button repeatedly (four times). You can also press STOP 9 to quit playback. REPEATING THE ENTIRE CD OR ONE TRACK � REPEAT � Press MODE until the desired option is displayed: REPEAT 1 - to continuously repeat the current track REPEAT ALL - to repeat the entire CD PROGRAM REPEAT ALL - to repeat the programmed tracks SHUFFLE REPEAT - to repeat the CD continuously in random order � The options can also be changed during playback. � To return to normal playback, press MODE until the display shows no SHUFFLE/REPEAT mode indication. PROGRAMMING TRACK NUMBERS You may store at most 20 tracks in the memory in the desired sequence. You may store any track more than once. If you have stored 20 tracks, the display will show F to indicate that the memory is full. Programming track numbers � Select the desired track using SEARCH � or § until the display shows the required track number. � Store the desired track by pressing PROGRAM once. � Select and store all desired tracks of a CD in this way. Checking the program � To review the set program, press PROGRAM more than 2 seconds. � The display will show the track numbers you have selected in sequence. � Start playback of the program by pressing PLAY·PAUSE 2;.

Cassette recorder
CASSETTE PLAYBACK � Set the source selector to TAPE/OFF. � Press STOP·OPEN 9 / to open the cassette holder. � Insert a recorded cassette. � Press PLAY 2 and playback will start. � Adjust the sound using the VOLUME, DBB and TONE controls. � For brief interruptions, press PAUSE ;. Press this key once more to resume playback. � By pressing 5 or 6, fast winding of the tape is possible in both directions. � To stop playback, press STOP·OPEN 9 /. � Push the source selector to TAPE/OFF position (with the cassette keys released) to switch off the set. Note: The keys are automatically released at the end of the tape. CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK � Set the source selector to TAPE/OFF. � Press STOP·OPEN 9 / to open the cassette holders of both decks. � Insert a recorded cassette in both decks. � Press PLAY 2 on deck 2 and playback will start on deck 2. � Press PAUSE ; on deck 1 and then PLAY 2. As soon as playback on deck 2 stops (when the tape has reached its end or STOP·OPEN 9 / is pressed) PAUSE ; on deck 1 is released and playback will start on deck 1.
